An educational workshop series focused on the topics & strategies an Independent Creator needs to know – work smarter, not harder. This REC Session installment will focus on the do’s & don’ts of protecting intellectual property as a creative entrepreneur. Led by, Entertainment & Corporate Attorney: Karl Fowlkes.
Attorney Karl Fowlkes will first provide an understanding on the different types of Intellectual Property and how they apply to music, art, business and creative works. He will discuss the elements of each type of Intellectual Property, discuss the process on how to protect each intellectual property (cost, steps, process), how to leverage each source of Intellectual Property and how to enforce your Intellectual Property in regards to infringement. He will also break down the new Music Modernization Act recently passed by the Senate and other current events related to IP.
Karl Fowlkes Background: Graduate of Villanova Law. NYC based attorney with Philadelphia roots. Karl has worked in Entertainment, Media and Sports dating back to his days interning with the Brooklyn Nets and Madison Square Garden Company during his time at St John’s University. Karl has successfully negotiated touring, merchandise, record label and management deals in the Music space and continues to acquire knowledge and skill in Intellectual Property, Fashion, Music, Sports and Entrepreneurship. Karl’s legal work spans from Fortune 500 companies to State Governments to Filmmakers. In 2017 Karl launched BuildxDestroy, a company offering representation, business strategy and legal services geared toward Artists, Creatives & Entrepreneurs, which is growing rapidly.
